Made in Krita (painting program)
The portrait blends two eras - the Renaissance (in its realism and chiaroscuro) and the present (in its use of a computer painting program). The Renaissance artists would have painted from a model - so the use of a smartphone selfie is IMO the appropriate twist.
The painting:
-Celebrates the “idea” of womanhood, one of the lost goals of art
-Celebrates western civilization
-Is introspective… lonely… the woman is in this black field
-Solipsistic - it portrays one of those weird moments where we’re alone and take that one selfie of ourselves (that uncanny moment)
-Universal - because we have *all* taken that photo
-Celebrates something of the modern feminine
-Portrays “the I seeing itself,” something elusive and mysterious
